W.H. Green and Associatres wins GBFFL competitive championship, Alumni's crowned recreational champs

August 19, 2008- W.H. Greene and Associates stormed through the GBFFL playoffs last Sunday and won the GBFFL competitive championship.  As the 3rd seed, Greene opened the playoffs against Zoombang, a team who defeated them by a score of 25-27, in week #3, July 13, 2008.  This time it was all Greene as they defeated Zoombang by a score of 32-6.  In the semi-finals they defeated The Dynasty in a back and fourth game, by a score of 20-19.  In a game filled with big plays, two plays stood out as game changing.  Trailing in the second half W.H. Greene and Associates’ Adam “swivel hips” Massaro caught a short pass and was immediately converged upon by two Dynasty players.  Massaro rotated his hips 90 degrees and slipped between both defenders and ran the remaining 25 yards to pay dirt.  On their next possession, The Dynasty gave up a safety as the result of a bad snap, which awarded Greene two points.  As expected, #1 seed Any Given Sunday reached the finals with two dominating victories.  In their opening game they defeated E.A. Heroes by a score of 28-0, followed by a 33-0 victory over The Buffalo Braves.

The finals match-up between W.H. Greene and Associates and Any Given Sunday was a rematch of their week #1 clash on June 29, 2008, won by Any Given Sunday, by a score of 20-12. Greene struck early on a 25 yard touchdown pass from Brandt Dubey to Adam Grupka.  Dubey connected on a 1 point coversion pass to Steve Patterson which make the score 7-0.  On the ensuing drive Adam Grupka intercepted Any Given Sunday Quarterback Nick Pappas and returned the ball 20 yards for his second touchdown of the game.  Brandt Dubey connected on another 1 point conversion pass to Steve Patterson, to give Greene an early 14-0 lead.  Any Given Sunday responded with a methodical drive, ending with a 5 yard touchdown pass from Nick Pappas to Tim Delaney.  Pappas connected on a 1 point conversion pass to Justin Athens to close the gap to 14-7, just before halftime.  Greene end Associates and Any Given Sunday were both unsuccessful on their opening drives of the second half.  On any Given Sunday’s second drive of the second half, they drove down to the 12 yard line and threatened to score and draw even.  On third down from the 12 yard line Nick Pappas was intercepted by Micah Hanford, who returned the ball 50 yards for a touchdown.  Dubey connected on a 1 point conversion pass to Adam Massaro to give Greene a 21-7 lead.  On the ensuing drive Pappas was again intercepted by Adam Grupka, who returned the ball 25 yards for his third touchdown of the game and sealed the win for W.H. Greene and Associates, 27-7.

In the recreational division, #1 seed, Alumni's defeated #4 seed, O.P. Shockers by a score of 28-0, in the opening round. #2 seed, ACDC won a close 12-6 game vs. #3 seed, Buffalo Soldiers in their opening round game to set up a #1 seed vs. #2 seed final. In the finals Alumni's experience and athleticism proved to be too much for ACDC as they were victorious by a score of 19-13.
