Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE W.H. Green and Associatres wins GBFFL competitive championship, Alumni's crowned recreational champs
The finals match-up between W.H. Greene and Associates and Any Given Sunday was a rematch of their week #1 clash on June 29, 2008, won by Any Given Sunday, by a score of 20-12. Greene struck early on a 25 yard touchdown pass from Brandt Dubey to Adam Grupka. Dubey connected on a 1 point coversion pass to Steve Patterson which make the score 7-0. On the ensuing drive Adam Grupka intercepted Any Given Sunday Quarterback Nick Pappas and returned the ball 20 yards for his second touchdown of the game. Brandt Dubey connected on another 1 point conversion pass to Steve Patterson, to give Greene an early 14-0 lead. Any Given Sunday responded with a methodical drive, ending with a 5 yard touchdown pass from Nick Pappas to Tim Delaney. Pappas connected on a 1 point conversion pass to Justin Athens to close the gap to 14-7, just before halftime. Greene end Associates and Any Given Sunday were both unsuccessful on their opening drives of the second half. On any Given Sunday’s second drive of the second half, they drove down to the 12 yard line and threatened to score and draw even. On third down from the 12 yard line Nick Pappas was intercepted by Micah Hanford, who returned the ball 50 yards for a touchdown. Dubey connected on a 1 point conversion pass to Adam Massaro to give Greene a 21-7 lead. On the ensuing drive Pappas was again intercepted by Adam Grupka, who returned the ball 25 yards for his third touchdown of the game and sealed the win for W.H. Greene and Associates, 27-7. In the recreational division, #1 seed, Alumni's defeated #4 seed, O.P. Shockers by a score of 28-0, in the opening round. #2 seed, ACDC won a close 12-6 game vs. #3 seed, Buffalo Soldiers in their opening round game to set up a #1 seed vs. #2 seed final. In the finals Alumni's experience and athleticism proved to be too much for ACDC as they were victorious by a score of 19-13. Kevin Martin, Dave Rudd and Rasheed Howie each scored touchdowns for Alumni's. Rasheed Howie was named Recreational Playoff MVP.
